The 35 km Forest Loop trail in Whaka Forest is fantastic for bikepacking, as it’s almost entirely a grade 2 trail. Combining it with Apumoana and some gravel roads makes for a slightly shorter route that avoids the rougher sections, but still includes a ton of fantastic offroad riding:
