The Whakarewarewa Forest Loop is a great collection of singletrack and firebreak roads, though the last 10 kilometres is rather boring as it takes the “concrete footpath” beside the highway (Te Ara Ahi). This route swaps that for a beautiful section of quiet unsealed roads through the forest:
