The best way to get between Rotorua and Tokoroa is not via the state highways. These are busy, dangerous and unpleasant to ride. Instead, take the Ngongotaha Cycleway to Ngongotaha, head up Dansey Road to Mamaku, and then take South Road and Mossop Road all the way to Tokoroa:

This route keeps you off the busy main roads, and is a joy to ride. Mamaku South Road is one of the best bikepacking routes in the entire region.
