Matata #

There are several good options for cycling to Matata, and you can take various routes. The way I’m suggesting here includes a fair amount of gravel while still being quite direct:

This route includes Hamilton Road, a classic bikepacking route which says “No Through Road” but is quite rideable on a bicycle. Herepuru Road is also a delightful descent, though if you’re heading from Matata up to Rotorua it’s a serious amount of climbing.
